Rebuilt from the Ground Up: The Shopswired Rewrite

June 19, 2026

Shopswired has been rewritten from the ground up — and it's no longer the same kind of product. What started as a quick, embeddable shop is now a full storefront platform you can design, theme, and extend.

The original Shopswired was built around a single, focused idea: give you a shop you could drop into any existing site or page. You added your products, grabbed an embed, and you were selling — no servers, no setup, no monthly bill. It made money the simple way, by taking a small cut of each transaction, so there was nothing to pay until you actually sold something.

That model was genuinely useful, and for a lot of merchants it was exactly enough. But it came with a hard ceiling: the designs were fixed. You got the layouts we shipped, and that was that. There were no real themes, no plugins, no way to make the store look and behave like your brand instead of a generic widget. The moment a merchant wanted more than "a shop, embedded," there was nowhere for them to go.

From an Embeddable Widget to a Storefront Platform

The rewrite isn't a coat of paint on the old product — it's a different category of thing. Shopswired is now a full, standalone e-commerce platform: customizable storefronts, swappable themes, and a real plugin system, all on infrastructure we manage for you.

We could have kept patching the embeddable widget, but a fixed-design shop and a fully customizable storefront platform are built on fundamentally different assumptions. Trying to grow one into the other in place would have meant fighting the old architecture at every turn. So we rebuilt the foundation to support the product merchants were actually asking for.

"The old Shopswired answered one question — 'can I embed a shop?' The new one answers a bigger one: 'can I run my whole store here?'"

What's New

1. Customizable, Themeable Storefronts

This is the headline change. Where the old product gave you fixed layouts and little else, the new Shopswired is built around full storefronts you control — swap themes, restructure pages, and shape the look and feel so the store reflects your brand instead of looking like a generic embedded widget.

2. A Real Plugin System

Shopswired wasn't pluggable before — what shipped is what you got. Now there's a proper plugin system, so functionality can be added and extended without forking anything or touching fragile internals. When a store needs something specific, there's finally a clean place to build it.

3. Storefronts That Load Instantly

The new rendering pipeline serves storefronts as lean, pre-optimized pages — including automatic image optimization and aggressive caching at the edge. The result is near-instant load times and strong Core Web Vitals out of the box, which is exactly what Google rewards in search and what shoppers reward with their wallets.

4. Fully Managed, with 0% Transaction Fees

The business model grew up too. Instead of skimming a cut of every sale, the new Shopswired is a fully managed platform where you keep 100% of every order, with 0% transaction fees. You run a complete store on infrastructure we handle for you — no servers to babysit, and no platform reaching into your revenue on the way out.

How Altlimit Uses Shopswired for Clients

Here's the part we're most excited about: Shopswired is how we launch storefronts for our clients.

When a business comes to us needing to sell online, we don't start from a blank repository and spend months building a bespoke checkout, inventory system, and admin panel from scratch. That's expensive, slow, and — for most stores — unnecessary. Instead, we stand the store up on Shopswired and put our engineering hours where they actually move the needle:

  • Brand-true design: We tailor themes so your store looks like your business, not a cookie-cutter template that's identical to your competitors'.
  • Catalog & data setup: Products, categories, pricing, and imagery imported and structured cleanly so the store is genuinely launch-ready, not a half-filled shell.
  • Integrations: Payments, shipping, analytics, and any third-party systems your operation depends on, wired in and tested.
  • Custom plugins when you need them: The new plugin system gives us a clean place to build the one or two things that make your store unique — without forking the whole platform.
  • Performance & SEO: We make sure the storefront ranks and converts, with the technical SEO foundation baked in.

The payoff for clients is simple: you get a fast, professionally designed, fully managed store in days, not months — and you keep every dollar of every sale. You get the polish of a custom build without paying to reinvent the parts of e-commerce that are already solved.
